I love Burgas. It’s a Bulgarian city on the shores of the Black Sea. The air is salty, the crisp beer flows freely, and the tsatsas compliment it all perfectly. There’s a reason I think it’s the most underrated city in Europe.
Before we go further though, please make sure you pronounce it correctly. My wife was born in Burgas so I think that gives me pronunciation authority. It’s BUR-gaaas. Not BUR-I need to fill my car up with-GAS. I hear too many foreigners mispronouncing it.
When you do learn its proper pronunciation and decide to travel there (which you should), the first question is likely: where should I stay?
I have the perfect video for you:
In short, I think Hotel Bulgaria is the best hotel in Burgas for the following reasons:
Centrally located - the hotel is literally in the center of town. It’s perfectly situated at the crossroads of the two main promenades, one of which leads to the sea.
Authentic four star experience - there are multiple restaurants in the hotel, a pool, a gym, and a wonderful spa. We used the spa for massages and it did not disappoint. We also had great dining experiences. Our booking included breakfast and we even tried the same restaurant for dinner one night. The Bulgarian wine options were fantastic and the menu options were extensive.
Close to the action - this includes transportation. We took a bus to Sofia at the end of our stay and it was convenient being so close to the bus station. Overall though, Hotel Bulgaria is in the heart of the action, near all of the city’s best restaurants, bars, shopping, and experiences. It’s also near all the government buildings if you have business there!
Another great option, as highlighted in the video, is Hotel Primoretz. This hotel is better in the summer, in my opinion, because it’s a little outside the city center, but is along the Black Sea. Their outdoor pool is outstanding. It also has all the luxuries you would experience at Hotel Bulgaria.
Both hotels offer great accommodations to English-speaking travelers, whether for business or pleasure. While the staffs are native Bulgarian speakers, they speak English very well.
There are a few boutique options you could go with too along the Black Sea, some which I mention in this video. The bottom line is that it’s hard to go wrong in this town. It’s a slower pace life by the sea. What’s not to like?
And if you do stay at Hotel Bulgaria, be sure to let me know about your experience!
Happy travels.
